Challenge

Along with the development of its products, LoginTrans, the owner of the Trans.eu brand, encountered the challenge related to the insufficient performance of the previous platform for integrating telematics suppliers with LoginTrans applications. In this case, it is important for GPS data to be fed to other applications in real time.

Besides high performance in handling large numbers of requests, where the estimated data volume was over 1 million of cyclic queries in a 10-20 second interval, it was important to ensure high availability and scalability of the platform. Because of that, the Client was expecting competence and support in the context of architecture and containerization of services on the Amazon AWS platform.

Solution

The integration platform for Telematics, supplied by BlueSoft, was based on the architecture of microservices implemented with Mule ESB technology.

Using a light ESB makes enables efficient handling of large numbers of requests and asynchronic communication between services. Additionally, technical microservices carry out dedicated functions, i.e. scheduling managed through the API, balancing package size, communication with AWS RDS and ElastiCache, communication with telematics suppliers’ systems and LoginTrans, which ensures greater separation of the system’s components.

Moreover, technical microservices of Mule ESB were designed as Docker containers, enabling elastic horizontal scaling. Scaling was carried out on the basis of cloud-based AWS services, such as ELB (Elastic Load Balancer) or ECS (Elastic Container Service).
