Tokai COBEX is a global leader in the production of high-quality graphite and carbon products serving the metallurgical, chemical, and energy industries. As part of its digital transformation initiative, Tokai COBEX began implementing a modern MES system (Delmia MES) aimed at increasing transparency and automating production processes. For the MES to operate effectively, it needed to be integrated with other key IT systems, including SAP S/4HANA (ERP) and LIMS ProLab (lab management system).
The MES implementation has taken on an international scope. Following the first phase completed in March 2025 at the Nowy Sącz facility, subsequent rollouts included the Racibórz plant in Q3 2025, with implementations at the French sites in Notre-Dame de Briançon and Vénissieux planned for Q4 2025. This required a flexible, scalable, and reliable integration architecture capable of seamless data exchange across locations.
To meet these requirements, Tokai COBEX chose MuleSoft as the foundation for its modern integration architecture – supporting the broader digital transformation goals of the Tokai Carbon group. The MES implementation was the key driver for MuleSoft deployment, which also demanded modernization of existing IT architecture and tighter automation of production and supply chain processes.
The platform was implemented on-premise using containerization and Runtime Fabric, ensuring high availability (HA) and support for operation in a clustered environment with shared memory. This setup enabled reliable data exchange between SAP S/4HANA, Delmia MES, and LIMS ProLab.
A key element of the implementation was the launch of a fully automated CI/CD process using Azure DevOps, allowing for end-to-end automation of the integration lifecycle – from development and testing through to production deployment. This approach significantly shortened delivery times and improved solution quality.
The project was delivered by the BlueSoft team, who carried out a comprehensive end-to-end implementation – from installing Runtime Fabric on the client’s servers, through setting up and launching CI/CD processes, to designing and deploying integrations between key systems. The scope also included the production phase, post-go-live (hypercare) support, as well as ongoing maintenance and development of the integration platform.

The full project scope included installing Runtime Fabric, implementing MuleSoft, setting up CI/CD pipelines, deploying integrations, and launching production environments. The project also included hypercare support, during which no incidents were reported. The entire process in Nowy Sącz took 10 months (April 2024 – February 2025) and successfully established a solid foundation for further integration development at Tokai COBEX.
