Challenge

Hellenic Cables is a company positioned at the forefront of high growth sectors, such as energy and telecommunications. In response to its growing scale of operations and the need to standardize processes, Hellenic Cables launched a comprehensive modernization and digitalization program for its production processes.

The program included:

  • the implementation of an MES system, delivered by an external vendor,
  • the development of a consistent integration layer between SAP ECC and the MES system,
  • the centralization of production data and master data,
  • the standardization of processes across the entire group.

Project complexity

BlueSoft was invited to join the program as the partner responsible for designing and implementing the integration layer, which was intended to become the foundation of the new IT ecosystem. Integrations were one of the key components of the MES implementation, ensuring that data in SAP and the MES system remained consistent, complete, and available in near real time.

Key challenges and constraints

At the start of the project, the organization faced several challenges:

  • the lack of a unified integration standard between SAP and the MES system,
  • manual and inefficient data transfer processes,
  • the risk of errors and limited traceability,
  • insufficient automation of production processes,
  • fragmented data spread across multiple systems,
  • the need to develop a solution that could be easily reused by other companies within the group.

Project objectives

Hellenic Cables expected a solution that would provide:

  • full automation of key data flows,
  • near real-time response to production events,
  • a unified integration standard that could be applied by other entities within the group,
  • a shared and scalable architecture to support future expansion,
  • maximum reduction of manual work and operational risk,
  • ensured data integrity and high data quality throughout the entire production process.

The project was strategic and became the foundation for the group’s digital transformation.

Solution

BlueSoft delivered a comprehensive integration layer based on the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, working closely with the MES implementation team and Hellenic Cables business stakeholders. The solution was designed as a key component of the new IT ecosystem, supporting both the MES implementation and the organization’s long-term development.

BlueSoft’s role in the program

As part of the integrated implementation program, BlueSoft was responsible for:

  • designing and implementing the complete integration architecture,
  • closely collaborating with the MES implementation team to align the MES deployment with the integration work,
  • ensuring consistency across implementation and integration processes,
  • building an integration platform ready to scale across Cenergy Holdings.

Project approach

The project was delivered using an Agile methodology, with an iterative approach, full transparency, and close cooperation with the client at every stage.

The work was divided into two main streams:

  • Pattern 1 – Master Data
  • Pattern 2 – Production Operations

The scope covered the full integration lifecycle:

Design → Development → Integration Testing → Performance / Load Testing → UAT → Go Live → Hypercare

As part of the program, several dozen integrations were designed and implemented in line with API-led connectivity standards.

Reusability as a key outcome

One of the main objectives of the program was to build an integration platform that could be reused across Cenergy Holdings, without the need to develop integrations from scratch.

BlueSoft designed the MuleSoft APIs to be:

  • sufficiently generic,
  • based on shared and standardized principles,
  • easy to extend as the organization evolves,
  • independent of the specific characteristics of a given production plant,
  • fully reusable in future MES implementations across additional factories.

With this approach, the integration platform became a practical enabler of growth, significantly reducing the time and cost required to integrate new companies into the group’s shared processes and systems.rship with access to expert knowledge.

Results

The project delivered measurable benefits for Hellenic Cables on both the technological and business levels.

Technological benefits

  • a centralized integration architecture was created for the entire group,
  • a complete set of SAP–MES integrations was implemented, covering both master data and production processes,
  • API standards, data transformation, queuing, and error handling processes were standardized,
  • high reliability and scalability of integrations were ensured,
  • the number of manual errors was significantly reduced through full process automation,
  • dedicated tools for integration monitoring, notifications, and reprocessing were implemented.

Business benefits

  • improved operational efficiency across production lines,
  • access to production and logistics data in near real time,
  • significantly faster onboarding of additional companies thanks to reusable APIs,
  • reduced costs and implementation time for new MES production sites,
  • increased process transparency and improved traceability,
  • a solid foundation for further digitalization and application development across the entire Cenergy group.
